Leah in glasses

Well we have a family history of bad eyes on both sides. It is no surprise that one of our children is in glasses already. However, a shock that she is indeed far sighted instead of near sighted like her Daddy. Now I am blind in my left eye due to a lazy eye. So far the girls are in no danger of that. It looks like they may be in the clear with that. Praise the Lord for that. Obviously I get along just fine with one eye. I have know idea what it is like to have two to see out of. But two is always better then one. Leah is doing extremely well with her glasses for being 2. She does not mess with them at all and keeps them on. Her sister likewise does not try to take them off. Which we were originally afraid of as well. All in all it was an easy transition for this family. And sometimes transitions in a family that deals with Autism Spectrum Disorder isn't always easy. We are very thankful for any small comfort that we do not have to address. So we are Praising the Lord for Leah being able to have glasses to see better. And also for Sharon to be able to accept the difference in her sister, whom she dearly loves.

Road of uncertainty should be paved with faith

So it has been a long winter for us. We found out that Sharon has PDD-NOS, which stands for Pervasive Developement Disorder. Another name would be Autism Spectrum Disorder. In terms people can understand she has Autistic symptoms but not enough to be classified autistic to they call it PDD-NOS. It is all quite cunfusing. Although spending hours even a day with Sharon you would not know she was PDD over time it is apparent. She is delayed across the board. However, she is intelligent at 3 can count to 30 and can recall what happen several months ago. Make no mistake she is incredibly smart. The hard part for us is to bring that out which we now know will not be in a conventional way. Insurance does not cover Autism therapies that will help Sharon. So we had to apply for Medicaid waiver that will pay for in home therapy that will help Sharon. We just found out she was approved and is now on the waiting list. The waiting list is about a year long then Sharon will have therapy in our home for 20 or more hours a week. We are ahead of the game because most of the children are not diagnosed until the age of 4. In the mean time she is going to a preschool that helps children with these delays. We are very Thankful for Sharon. She is a wonder that God has made. We have a hard time understanding her like every child. God has given us a unique child and an opportunity to grow from the challenge He has laid before us.
In the same sense Leah is a very caring and helpful child. She is a very happy, normal, small child. She just loves her sister. She wants to do whatever sister is doing. She does not fight with sister. We have had to take her in for testing as well. She is quite small you see. She only weights 20 pounds and at almost 2years old that is not a lot. It turns out she is just small. We are Thankful that nothing was wrong there. We are very proud of our peanut as well.
As for me, I'm recovering from my 5Th knee surgery. I was told it needed to be replaced. And at a little over 30 not something you want hear. However, I knew that it was coming. I opted to have an Artho done and wait until the kids are a little bit older. It is healing very well. I'm Thankful that I can walk when others can't. That what is broken in me can be fixed. Although knee surgery isn't fun at least it fixes the problem. And I obviously don't mind doing it.
We all have our struggles. We all have things in life to get through. God didn't say it was going to be a picnic down here. It is how your going to deal with those struggles that is going to be the difference between happiness and depression. I would rather find the good in a situation than the bad. What is God doing in this situation? Because it is always to His glory. If we remember that uncertainty is only what God hasn't showed you.
